MaMaMu/the shirtmakers

Magdalena Maria Muszynska

I am an independent designer from Warsaw, Poland.

In September 2015 I graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.

In January 2016 I moved to Vienna, Austria, where I have a little studio space at home, make things at the Happy Lab, and sells in selected shops in Europe.

Magdalena runs also another label under the name "THE SHIRT MODULAR SYSTEM". The modular clothing system combines a basic shirt of various parts with extra shirt design elements. The elements are designed in collaboration with other artists. The other label can be seen here:

My graduate collection, "CONTRARIES", was inspired by the NYC Central Park and Manhattan. In each piece of the collection oppose what is considered male and female in fashion.

Male element represents Manhattan: rational, quantitative, well-structured. It is present in the basic forms of clothing: dress-shirts, jackets, trousers, vertical and horizontal cuts, grey and light brown basic colors of the collection. Numbers, being a decorative element of the collection, represent the quantitative male element.

Female element represents Central Park: nature, irregularity, emotions, decoration. It is present in the organic elements of the clothing (e.g. frills), hand-stiched decoration, prints, quilting. Female colors are the colors of Central Park in autumn: yellow, red, green and violet.

The collection consists of clothing and accesorries: bags and jewelry. It includes fabric of my design: digitally printed cotton, screen-printed lining, quilted and hand-stitched wools.
